A Poem for the Sacrament of Confirmation

When you were born
your parents brought you
to me.

I welcomed you
held you
and kissed you.

I received you
as one of my own.

I prayed
for the Spirit to fill
your hearts and your homes.

We sang as we went to the font,
washed you in water
and gave you new life.

And now
you have returned to me,

to confirm
your "yes" to love.

I am
the Church
the Body of Christ
and you
are mine.
